Describe the experience
- Use whatever words fit your experience, such as aching, burning, stinging, tightness, or tenderness, and say where you feel it.
- Tell the clinician when it happens, whether it is different from before, and which details you are unsure about.
Explain what it interrupts
- Give a specific example of how discomfort affects sleep, getting dressed, moving around, or taking part in a care visit.
- If you are afraid of a part of the visit, say so before it begins and ask the clinician to explain the plan.
Ask for a clear contact plan
- Ask how the team wants you to report discomfort between visits and which changes should prompt a call under your individual plan.
- Share what you currently use or have been prescribed for discomfort, and direct questions about changes to the prescribing clinician.
