Say what changed and when

  • Describe what you noticed in your own words, when you first noticed it, and how it differs from what you usually see or feel.
  • For example, 'Since yesterday, I have noticed this change, and I would like to know what you want me to do next.'

Add the details you know

  • Identify which wound you mean and describe any effect on your comfort, sleep, movement, or usual activities.
  • If you cannot see the area yourself or are unsure about a detail, explain that instead of guessing.

Use the agreed contact route

  • Follow the contact instructions from your treating team and say clearly that your message concerns a change in the wound.
  • Before ending the conversation, repeat back the next step and confirm whom to contact if you cannot reach the intended clinician.
